For this demonstration, a previously filled core shot was cut out. |
Tape around repair area. Cut out loose material, sand, clean with base cleaner and wipe dry.
Warm repair area with 100°C iron on Teflon sheet, heat gun or hair dryer.
Melt metal grip onto core with tip of iron.
Let metal grip cool & harden, trim, sand & clean.
Feeding welding rod to iron tip and smearing into gouge.
View of soldering tip over weld and welding rod.
Weld to above base with no depressions. Let cool and harden.
Lightly and repeatedly cut excess material with panzer file. Increase pressure as necessary.
View of weld trimmings and progress.
Trimmed to base with panzer only, but some tear out occurred. Functionally OK but not ideal, aesthetically undesirable. opportunity to show patching. |
Patched smaller holes by melting material on back of tip and smearing after cleaning and sanding to fix tear-out.
Trimmed patch with panzer only to base level. Alternatively, stop just before base and switch to finer cutting and smooth options.
Sanded, filed & scraped to even out and feather weld to blend with base.
View of weld. Not perfect but more than adequate functionally. Can be improved upon with taking more time and stopping use of panzer sooner and using finish tools.
Different lighting shows more positive looking results.
Aggressive structuring with rilling tool blends appearance further. Ready for resanding and rilling for finer structure, clean and wax. |
Cleaned w/base cleaner, hot scraped and then waxed w/Race Base, brushed and waxed w/P1 spray, brushed & polished.
